ROUND 7|8 CTCC - Wuhan Street Race | Shanghai

Qualifying was to be more crucial in this months initial China Touring Car Championship challenge due to there being limited overtaking opportunities in the Wuhan Street Circuit, where Round 7 was held.

The teams drivers started well and maintained a good pace to continuously break their own personal best lap time, which saw Team Captain Rainey He take third place, starting Race 1 from the second row of the grid.

Race 1 proved to be a battle with numerous collisions and a reg flag deployed, whilst Rainey suffered contact with other drivers multiple times, seeing him lose grid positions, but still taking a top five spot in 5th, just 2 seconds behind teammate Martin Cao who just missed out on a podium win, and now moves into the lead of the championship on 109.5 points.

Race 2 saw Zhang Da Sheng lead from pole in his mountune powered Changan FRD Team Ford Focus ahead of team-mate Andy Yan.  The final race of the day was incident packed, especially for Cao, who’d been let past by teammate Yan only to suffer a hit, cracking his suspension and eliminating him from the race.  Yan went on to finish a respectable 4th, with Rainey He and Zhang Da Sheng in 7th and 8th respectively.

Cao sits in second place in the championship table after Race 2, just 6.5 points behind the lead.

The first Race of Round 8, the final of the 2017 Championship, proved challenging for the mountune powered FRD Team.  Both Andy Yan and Rainey He suffered problems with their cars, retiring them from the race early, plus Martin Cao was forced to overtake two drivers under the safety car to avoid an accident, resulting in officials excluding him, meaning he had no hope to fight for the overall 2017 driver championship.  However, teammate Zhang Dai Sheng finished in the top 10, taking 7th place.

The last race of 2017 brought the season to the highest excitement with a tight battle on the points table. Shanghai International is always the most challenging circuit for the teams and drivers but the team were confident going into the final race of the year.

Martin Cao, who had the highest potential to fight for the driver championship started from 8th and overtook a few rivals on the straight to finish in 4th place, however didn’t obtain any points due to mistakes.  Teammate and Captain, Rainey He followed in 7th, gaining valuable points for the team.

The 2nd race was also the 100th race in CTCC, in what was the 12th Championship for the mountune powered Changan Ford Racing Team. The Team have seen immense success over the last decade, taking 9 championship wins and 3 overall driver titles, and now look forward to their 2018 challenge.  We congratulate the whole team on this years successes.
