More podiums in a busy month of Motorsport

Another busy month of Motorsport saw the mountune Racing team travel the globe supporting drivers and teams across various championships. 

BTCC Round 7 | 8 : Knockhill & Rockingham

Race 1 at the famous Fife circuit saw Team BMR driver, Jason Plato take a lights to flag victory in his mountune powered Levorg after securing pole position in Saturday's qualifying session, one place ahead of teammate Ash Sutton.   The only car in the top 7 on hard tyres, Plato lead every lap of the race, again followed by Sutton who took the second step at the podium.  Race 1 was Plato's first win since the same round and race last year, Knockhill 2016.

Race 2 saw Plato again start from pole position on the soft tyre this time, but also now carrying 75kg of ballast for the first time this year.  The race was red flagged following a first corner incident, which saw a number of cars unable to make the restart, and Plato battled with teammate Sutton mid-race losing the lead to the potential 2017 champion.  The race finished in a mirror reversal of Race 1, with Sutton taking 1st, and Plato 2nd.

This months Knockhill round also saw mountune powered Team Shredded Wheat Racing with DUO battle to take 3 top 10 finishes in an action packed weekend for the Kent based team.

Race 1 saw Jackson suffer a mechanical issue, watching the race from the pits, whilst home-hero Fife man, Rory Butcher survived his first BTCC run with the team battling the grid to finish P25, with Depper two spots behind him.  

In Race 2, starting at the back, Jackson made his way up the grid finishing in 16th with Depper making 11th, and after having picked up some damage amid the Race 2 chaos, the team were able to complete repairs to Butchers #6 Focus whilst the Red Flag was out allowing him to rejoin, subsequently taking a top 10 finish in 9th place. 

The final race of the day saw Butcher running Ballast-free on the soft tyre, and making his mark on the grid with an incredible drive as he charged through the pack, followed closely by Depper.  Butcher brought home another 9th place finish, with Depper in 12th, and Jackson in a fantastic 7th, having climbed an impressive 14 spots! 

Butcher’s top ten finishes earned him the Jack Sears Trophy honours as the highest-scoring rookie from the weekend.

The opening race at Round 9, Rockingham again saw another lights to flag victory for Adrian Flux Subaru Racing, this time for P1 qualifier, James Cole.  Fending off some early challenges in the opening race, Cole pulled away ahead of teammate Ash Sutton to take his first Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship victory, with Sutton taking step 2. 

Sutton took command in Race 2 clutching the lead from Race1 winner Cole, and stayed in position to take his second podium of the day, this time the top step. 

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with DUO's Mat Jackson also battled the grid climbing from a 7th place start to claim second by the smallest of margins. 

A superb end to the day with another Subaru podium, this time for Knockhill Race 1 winner Plato on the podium with a 3rd place finish.

The points earned at Rockingham now put Sutton on top of the Driver Standings Leaderboard, 12 points clear with 2 rounds to go.  The independent teams sees Team Shredded Wheat Racing with DUO retain 1st position, with Jackson now in 3rd in the Independent Drivers. 

GRC ROUND 8 | 9 - Atlantic City

Atlantic City played host to this months GRC rounds over the third double-header event this season.  Day 1, Round 8, saw Sebastian Eriksson take 3rd in qualifying and finish 4th ahead of teammates Mitchell deJong and Oliver Eriksson who finished in 5th and 6th respectively.

Round 9 on the second day saw the team finish further down the table in qualifying but some superb driving from Sebastian Eriksson saw him battle and climb the grid, defending his position to take the 2nd podium step, with deJong and O. Eriksson finishing in the top 10 in 5th and 7th.  After the latest round, the mountune / OMSE powered Honda team remains in second-place in this season Manufacturers’ Championship.

CCTC ROUND 5 - Shanghai

Since having the biggest challenge thrown at them this season with Balance of Performance and a total of 360kg of Success Ballasts assigned to their vehicles, the experienced team arrived in Shanghai knowing they would face by far the toughest challenge yet.  Rainey He, Andy Yan, Martin Cao, and joined again by James Nash, who was phenomenal during rounds two and three scoring in every race he participated in, all started lower down the grid than previous races due to a difficult qualifying session.

Cao, leader in the Drivers’ standings after four rounds, was once again the star driver of the team, gaining 5 and 12 places to finish in eighth and seventh in race one and two respectively. Captain He and Nash adjusted much better in the second race to ensure three mountune powered Changan Ford Racing Team drivers would feature in the top 10 finishers.  Yan recorded a DNF after retirement on lap two following a collision.

Brian Ma, the team’s Technical Director, knew Jiading would provide a serious challenge for the team and recognised the strategy at the Sunday races would be less about going-for-glory but more about team effort and helping each other to score as many points as possible to maintain its overall lead.

The mountune Track Team were again there to support the drivers, and look forward to resuming the series after the summer break when Wuhan plays host to a street race for round six.


A mixed weather weekend saw Denmark host the 4th round of this years Nordic RallyX championship in which mountune powered JC Raceteknik's Thomas Bryntesson and Ola Fröshaug both made it to the Final.

After a hard, initial fight, 21yr old Bryntesson took the lead and remained in front until the end of the race with teammate Fröshaug battling to claim second place, making it a 1-2 finish for the Swedish Supercar team.

46-year-old Norwegian Fröshaug took his first stall in RallyX Nordic and now sits in 7th in the driver standings table, with Bryntesson still sitting in the top spot, 20 points ahead with 2 rounds to go.

Supercar Lites

Since the introduction of the Supercar Lites in 2013, the Rallycross entry level class has gone from strength to strength globally.

Having developed the engine back in 2012, mountune has built and supplied the naturally aspirated unit for the complete Lites grid since the cars debut and continues to offer both engine and track support at each round, including the latest at Canada RX2, and Atlantic City GRC Lites. 

The mountune Racing Lites engine is based on a 2.5-litre Duratec base unit that's de-stroked to 2.4-litres. This modification greatly reduces NVH, in particular vibration, which can be detrimental to the engine's reliability when used at sustained / high revs, as typically found in this racing environment.  Besides Supercar Lites, this unit provides an excellent lightweight option for rally, race, hill-climb, and also sprint or kit car.
